As an Employment law solicitor I have worked with many different types of organisations over the years from business, public and voluntary sectors. I recently specialised in the field of unlawful discrimination in the workplace, where I support and provide advice and guidance on unlawful discrimination. In addition to this, I represent employees at Employment Tribunals in claims of unlawful discrimination.
What I can report without hesitation is that all of my work began with one thing: an employee holding a
perception of being treated unfairly. That perception may be well founded or unjustified but the result was that no goodwill remained in the employment relationship and destructive conflict and formal action became inevitable. My message here to all employers is to start at
grass roots level if you want to avoid this unnecessary disruption to business, the human stress, and the financial cost.
The way that I would recommend any organisation to start is by attending the accredited Asian Cultural Awareness course run by Noble Khan Limited. It is the most outstanding training in the field of Diversity that I have encountered in all of my years as an Employment practitioner.
I was fortunate to attend Noble Khan’s training this course in March 2008. It provides the right blend of professionalism, fun, and respect using NLP techniques that take you out of your comfort zone very skilfully. Sadi Mehmood provides constant support to your learning ensuring you do not feel anxious or discomfort. She ensures you learn fully without feeling ignorant, or being judged.
Noble Khan helped me recognize my own limits and understanding. I came away from the course with a very strong understanding of how to approach cultural differences and avoid pitfalls, which I would have fallen into, even if I had not meant to cause offence.
Since doing the course, which has resulted in many positive situations within both my work and personal life. I have addressed people more appropriately, understood clients better because of having a sounder understanding of their background and this empathy has been appreciated and led to firmer relationships and repeat business.
I am also very confident that placing employees on this course and reflecting its message in everyday practice will stand any organisation in good stead by way of the statutory defence in the event that a rogue employee does not treat his or her colleagues with the appropriate dignity and respect. Employers of predominantly British white employees are often the most vulnerable in defending Employment Tribunal cases for a variety of reasons and this course is therefore particularly helpful for them. Legal compliance aside, having Noble Khan’s cultural awareness course as part of mandatory induction training can make you an employer of choice.
In addition to the face-to-face training, Noble Khan has now developed an online exciting and interactive Asian Religion and Cultural Awareness course so that the needs of all employers and employees can be met.
For employers, it will be an invaluable investment in the development of your employees. It will help individuals to really understand diverse Britain in the 21st Century and how to make that diversity work for us all.
As an employment solicitor and parent and friend and neighbour I recommend to you this course. Raising cultural awareness in our society today is without doubt the way forward and Noble Khan Limited have simply got it right.
